Let’s jump right into the first idea, which is the most out-there of the bunch: creating patterns. There are some stores like Sweet Shop Designs on Etsy that offer printable pattern designs.

While their seamless patterns are most often used to create printable papers, you could theoretically apply them to any project.

While this store isn’t all that big, and they only have around 40,000 sales (for now), and their pattern packs are only sold for $2 each, that still has to amount to a total of at least $80,000.

That would be $80,000 per year in passive income. The store has around 200 listings, which is a lot to choose from.

While the profit potential may be lower than with some of the following suggestions, consider how simple it is to come up with such patterns.

Artificial intelligence can do anything we need it to. You’re probably already familiar with MidJourney, the image generation AI. If you offer it a suggestion, it will instantly produce an image based on that suggestion. However, there is a secret method that few people are aware of. See, I found this great video on YouTube by StackinProfit, and he explains how to make seamless pattern patterns with MidJourney AI. And following the indications in that video, I used a few prompts.

The first half of this sentence describes the desired pattern and its components. The rest is merely a bunch of AI-generated keyword phrases meant to make a lovely picture. And what you can see above are a few sample illustrations I made while using those prompts, which aren’t too bad in all honesty.

The neat thing about MidJourney prints is that they are virtually always one continuous design. To create a new pattern from an existing image, we need only to use Photoshop, GIMP, or upload the image to a website like Photopea, a free alternative to Photoshop.

Because of this, we can easily make copies of the pattern and scale it up or down as needed. If we only saved the file, we could put it up for sale on Etsy as a digital download.

Using the preceding suggestion as a jumping off point, I was able to make these patterns in a matter of minutes with very little effort.
